Day 4
Good evening. Look at you coming back to check in on us. The day started out the same but I do have updates. Started out with breakfast, pharmacy stop, rough ride, and we’re back at Next Life. First thing after getting the head count we were able to service 85 people today. Pretty straight forward for the most part. A handful of kids came in and were able to pick up sunglasses. But we did have a few struggles again with the elderly. We were able to fit all but two with the glasses. Those two were able to make use of the mobility canes that we brought with us. These individuals had family members help them up the stairs and into our clinic. God willing it did not take them long to start picking up on how to use them and they were able to walk out on their own.
Turns out the carpentry boys had been working on a table and chair set. I’m not sure if they had it all finished today, but there are progress photos. Alan (one of the Iowa member) did some snooping and checked out the camp kitchen. Charlie and Mary put together our noon meal everyday and we have some photos of the conditions they work in to feed us and everyone else at Next Life. You will see Charlie making what they call a pancake. It reminds me more of thicker tortilla shell. Other sides include beans with corn, and different meat combinations. Not sure what they all were but I enjoyed them all. Something special we had with most meals is all of the fresh fruit. Bananas, pineapple, mango, papaya, and fresh avocado every morning. Yes I googled it, avocado is classified as a fruit. We all learned something today. We decided to keep it simple tonight and pick up pizza on the way back to the lodge tonight. Laurence and his family joined us again tonight. Which was a little more special since we got to celebrate his daughter Zoeys 2nd birthday with them. That’s all for this evening. We will be in touch after we finish up our last clinic day.
Thank you for sharing your daily adventures. God is certainly sending blessing all around. You to the Tanzanian people, the Tanzanian people to you, and most importantly our Lord is blessing everyone with His love and steadfastness. May He grant that your presence there help plant the seed, nourish and mature the faith in those who already believe, and grow His Kingdom.
ReplyDeleteToday was President Jimmy Carter's memorial service in Washington, D.C.. It was noted that one of his favorite Bible passages was Micah 6:8:
"He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God".
Know that you are living out that requirement as you serve the Tanzanian people for Jesus' sake. God's blessings on your final clinic tomorrow and your day Saturday as you enjoy a break and prepare to come home.
Peace be with you.
